Raden Eling Prayitno & Siti Hafizah Mohd Yusoff
The brief for the wedding reception for Eling and Fiza was simple. It had to be a completely authentic, traditional, royal Javanese bersanding.

The Sheraton Imperial KL was the chosen venue, and the venue decoration by Margaret McCallum’s was among the most spectacular the hotel has ever seen. In accordance with Javanese tradition, behind the pelamin were five fully-grown coconut trees. The gilded love seat used for the bersanding stood under a golden canopy richly decorated with flowers. Either side of the canopy were thrones for the couple’s parents.

The bersanding involved some ten traditional Javanese ceremonies, and during the evening guests were entertained by Javanese dancers performing traditional wedding dances accompanied by a gamelan orchestra. The couple’s many attendants (including Margaret McCallum’s staff) were all dressed in Javanese attire.

The planning and coordination of this event was some of the most challenging work we have ever undertaken.

The wedding reception of Eling and Fiza was later broadcast on TV1’s Panorama.
